A study of constitutional and legal issues as well as landmark decisions that relate to teachers.

*Ed 141 Special Education

one semester, two hours

A study of methods for helping the slow and/or accelerated learner.

*Ed 151 The Laws of Teaching and Learning

one semester, two hours

A study of the art of communicating knowledge and the science of understanding the learner.

*Ed 212 Foundations of Education

one semester, two hours

An appraisal of the foundations of American education from colonial times and a study of the philosophies that spawned or opposed the growth of Christian education.

*Ed 232 Teaching Language Arts

one semester, three hours

A study of teaching methods, lesson planning, and classroom procedures including skills in the teaching of grammar, composition and literature.

*Ed 252 Teaching Science

one semester, three hours

A study of the teaching methods and procedures in the teaching of earth and life sciences in the elementary school.

*Ed 331 Teaching Reading and Writing

one semester, three hours

A study of the basic methods of reading and writing with a particular emphasis on the teaching of phonics. Includes the fundamentals of manuscript and cursive writing.

*Ed 341 Teaching Mathematics

one semester, two hours

A study of the methods of teaching math fundamentals in elementary school.

*Ed 362 Fine Arts Fundamentals and Methods

(Same as Mu 362) one semester, two hours

A study of methods of teaching art and music using various materials and media suitable for the Christian school.

*Ed 371 Educational Methods and Materials

one semester, three hours

A study of the aims, methods, and materials used in elementary school teaching with special emphasis on lesson planning, discipline, and classroom procedures.

*Ed 372 Educational Tests and Measurements

one semester, three hours

A study of standardized and teacher-made tests, testing methods, and their practical application to the measurement of a student’s achievements and aptitude.

*Ed 422 Teaching English Bible

one semester, two hours

A study in the development of a Bible curriculum and teaching aids with an emphasis in the development of appropriate techniques, materials, and teaching aids.

*Ed 432 Children’s Literature

one semester, two hours

An interpretive and critical study of literature suitable for children with an emphasis on subject matter, interpretation, and methods of illustration.

*Ed 451 Teaching History

one semester, two hours

Practical and successful methods, materials, and procedures for teaching history in the Christian elementary school.

**Ed 473 Practice Teaching

(Prerequisite: Administrative permission required) one semester, ten hours

A capstone of classroom teaching. The student teacher, under the guidance of an experienced advisory teacher, will be responsible for all of the activity of the assigned class. The student will be governed by the Student Teacher Handbook.

*Ed 482 Christian School Administration (Same as Pr 482)

one semester, two hours

A survey of the major areas of Christian school administration: philosophy, principles of operation, methodology of instruction, curriculum development, supervision, physical plant, school law, and various management areas.

**Ed 490 Directed Reading in Education

one semester, one – three hours

A guided study in a specified educational topic; open only to upperclassmen who have secured permission from the faculty.

**Ed L03 Fundamentals of Church Education

(General Seminar) one semester, one hour

A study of all facets of church education from childhood to adult education.
