Professional Studies Course Descriptions

**CS 110 Keyboard Mastery

one semester, two hours

Mastery of the keyboard, including proper technique and rhythm. This course is for the student with little or no background in touch-typing or who cannot type by touch above 30 words a minute.

**CS 111 Beginning Keyboarding and Document Processing

one semester, three hours

Techniques of touch keyboarding with special attention given to accuracy, rhythm, and speed. The student participates in skill building production activities involving a variety of personal and business communications.

**CS 112 Intermediate Document Processing

(Prerequisite: CS 111)

one semester, three hours

More advanced functions including preparation of tables and financial statements, specialized correspondence, specialized reports, and specialized tables. Introduction to completing and creating forms, as well as an introduction to desktop publishing. Focuses on the improvement of keyboarding technique and speed.

**CS 211 Advanced Document Processing

(Prerequisite: CS 112)

one semester, three hours

More advanced functions in desktop publishing and integrated office projects. Continued emphasis on skill building activities to improve technique and speed.

**CS 241 PowerPoint

one semester, two hours

An introduction to basic and advanced features of the current Microsoft PowerPoint program using hands-on projects and utilizing integration with other Microsoft programs.

**CS 242 Introduction to Word Processing

(Prerequisite: CS 111)

one semester, two hours

An introduction to word processing and its various functions in business.

**CS 246 Computer Applications

one semester, two hours

A brief introduction to computer concepts and detailed instruction in the use of electronic spreadsheet software and database management software.

**CS 341 Presentations and Advanced Word Processing Concepts

one semester, two hours

A focus on advanced word processing, utilizing WORD and development of presentations using PowerPoint as supported by the Windows 95/98/2000/ME operating systems. The student will create presentation graphics, will learn advanced formatting features to enhance documents, and will merge documents, sort text, create envelopes and labels, use columns, and learn how to integrate multiple applications.
