Educational Preparation

High School

The usual requirement for admission to the undergraduate program is graduation from high school. Applicants should have successfully completed a minimum of 16 units of high school work, not including Bible.

The College recommends applicants take either the ACT or SAT test.

GED

Applicants who have successfully completed the General Education Development (GED) test are usually considered as having sufficient basis for college admission. The College will evaluate the results of the GED.

Home School

International Baptist College supports the rights of parents to educate their children at home and recognizes that education as a viable option. IBC will admit a student based on the transcript produced by a parent or a home school agency. An official transcript including courses taken, grades earned, and date of graduation is required. The College also recommends applicants take the ACT or SAT test.

Transfer Student

Transfer students from other colleges must meet the same requirements for admission as freshmen students. Those with fewer than 26 hours of college level work may be required to submit ACT scores. To receive standing as a transfer student, the student must present official transcripts of prior college work and a statement of good standing from the institution of prior attendance. Transfer credit must come from schools that are accredited by an agency approved by the U.S. government. Exceptions to this policy may be made on an individual basis by the Registrar’s office. All courses transferred must have a grade no lower than C-. For graduate transfer courses the minimum grade is B-. For some subjects the student must satisfactorily pass a placement test in order to receive transfer credit. This may include language courses and other skill subjects. Credit can be transferred only for courses that are similar in scope and content to required IBC courses. In some cases the transferred courses must also be similar in philosophical perspective, such as ministerial classes or missions classes. Courses from other institutions that are not similar to any courses in IBC’s curriculum may be transferred as free electives.

Correspondence and other distance learning courses are not transferable into a student’s professional major field (Christian Service or Teacher Education). They may be accepted into other departments with special approval. The total number of courses accepted by transfer into a student’s major field will normally be less than the total number to graduate with that major. Normally, no more than 75% of a major can be accepted by transfer. College-level work used to complete high school graduation requirements cannot be accepted in transfer as college-level credit. The College accepts CLEP (College-Level Examination Program) if the credits are in an equivalent subject area in the IBC curriculum. CLEP testing should be completed before the end of the student’s first year. The minimum acceptable score in subject tests is 50.

Because International Baptist College has institutional accreditation with the Transnational Association of Christian Schools and Colleges, other colleges and universities may be more inclined to accept this institution’s credits in transfer. However, there is no guarantee that this will be the case. Every college or university makes its own decision as to what it will accept or reject. International Baptist College cannot guarantee that its credits will or will not be accepted at any or every other school. Students are encouraged to check with the Registrar’s office of the school to which they are interested in transferring in order to determine the transferability of IBC’s credits. Advice or guidance regarding what courses a student should take at International Baptist College in order to transfer to another school is available from the Registrar’s office. However, only the Registrar of the school to which the student is transferring can give assurance of transferability. In some cases the other school may not be willing to give this assurance. In order to have a transcript sent to another school or institution, a student must make certain that all financial obligations to the College are paid up to date. No transcript can be sent if a student or former student owes money to the College.
