Registration and Check-In is Monday, July 11, from 8:30–9:00 a.m. in the Church Foyer.
Auditions for chair placement in the band will be held on Monday morning. Campers will be asked to sight-read, play scales, and play a portion of a prepared solo or etude.
All campers in grades 9–12 will audition for placement in Symphonic Band.
Campers in grades 7–8 may choose to audition for Symphonic Band. Otherwise they will be placed in Concert Band. No placement audition is necessary for Concert Band.
Campers in grades 5–6 will not participate in placement auditions. Day-One Beginner Campers will be in Cadet Band; all others will be in Concert Band.
Bruce Cox is in his twenty-sixth year on the faculty of Bob Jones University where he is the department head for instrumental studies, teaches trumpet, and directs the University Trumpet Choir and Concert Band. Active as a band conductor, Bruce has been guest clinician for private school band festivals in six states. He completed his DMA in trumpet performance and pedagogy in 1995 from the University of Southern Mississippi after earning a bachelor's degree from BJU and a master's degree from the University of Illinois. His principal trumpet teachers include Argyle Paddock, Michael Tunnell, and Allan Cox, with additional lessons under Ray Sasaki, Ruth Still, Robert Nagel, and Larry Black. Bruce has performed with the Meridian (MS) Symphony Orchestra, Hendersonville (NC) Symphony Orchestra, Greenville (SC) Symphony Orchestra, and the Southern Arts (MS) Brass Quintet. He currently performs with the Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Greater Anderson Musical Arts Consortium, and BJU's faculty brass ensemble, Foundation Brass. He and his wife Jennifer have three children; their family attends Suber Road Baptist Church in Greer, SC, where he has served as minister of music since 1987.
Camp will officially end after the Grand Finale Concert on Friday evening.
