IBC Spain Mission Trip - June 9, 2009

This summer six International Baptist College students headed to southern Spain for a few weeks of practical ministry experience. In keeping with IBC's "mentoring into ministry" philosophy the missions team was hosted by Larry and Kathy Carlisle, seasoned missionaries with International Baptist Missions.

From May 20 to June 9, 2009, team members Miguel Alfaro, Katie and Lisa Carlisle, Megan Maves, Michael Rollins and Christine White worked alongside the Carlisles doing various work projects, helping with a teen activity, and leading Vacation Bible Schools at two different churches. It isn't easy to draw a crowd for a church event in this predominately Catholic country, so the team was thankful for the ten or so kids that came to each VBS. The children enjoyed crafts, games, and magic tricks, and learned Bible stories, verses and songs. The highlight of the trip came during the second week of VBS when a nine-year-old boy realized his spiritual need and turned to Jesus for salvation.

The team also ministered at four different churches with special music and preaching. Few teams or ministry groups pass through this area of Spain, so the team's presence was encouraging to these pastors and congregations. The team was blessed as well. During their two and a half weeks in Spain, they experienced both the difficulty and discouragement of missions work as well as the joy of seeing God's faithfulness and power in the salvation of a soul.
