International Baptist College's preaching event gives "preacher boy" students the opportunity to practice preaching in front of their IBC peers and receive evaluation by IBC faculty and pastors from the Valley.

A high priority is placed on preaching at IBC. The preaching event gives pastors-in-training the opportunity to practice preaching and learn how to receive constructive criticism. Students who have taken Homiletics, a class on how to preach, are invited to participate. The preliminary round is judged by IBC staff and faculty who understand the qualities of good preaching. For the final round, pastors from across the valley are invited to come and judge the two finalists.

This year's participants were Miguel Alfaro, Caleb Finney, Burley Gwaltney, Daniel Kelting, Jeff Maxwell, Jesse Muldoon, Kenny Norris, Steven Pena, Samuel Posey, and Neil Price. Some of the topics included dedicating one's life to God,being humble, and standing firm in the Lord.

Samuel Posey was a little nervous about participating in the preaching event for the first time. "My mouth was dry," he recalls. Nonetheless, he said that it gave him good experience at public speaking and expounding God's word.

The final for the preaching event is April 21 when the two speakers with the highest scores in the first round will give their messages once more, and then a winner will be chosen.
