The International Baptist College choir is open to all students. To give students an opportunity to minister through song, the choir performs several times each year at special IBC events and Tri-City Baptist Church services. Some of the songs are humorous, but most are spiritual since the focus of the choir is on serving God. The director is Professor Michael Bryson, head of IBC’s music department.
Preparation for the fine arts concert on May 14, 2010 began in January. The choir learned a variety of songs; some by well-known composers such as Vivaldi and Handel, some modern, including Redeemer by Michael Bryson. The songs ranged from quiet and contemplative to energetic and triumphant.
For the fine arts concert, several of the IBC faculty and guests John and Mary Giger participated in addition to the choir. The Gigers are professional musicians and Mr. Giger gives voice lessons at IBC and has also conducted a choir workshop at IBC. Mrs. Becky Stertzbach, executive assistant at IBC, performed a group of songs by Fanny Crosby. An ensemble of IBC students and staff also sang.
The theme for this year’s concert was Laudate. Laudate Dominum is Latin for "we praise you, God." In choosing the songs for this year’s program, Professor Bryson included several Latin songs of praise to God.
