“Experience IBC” College Days - April 7-8, 2011

The campus of International Baptist College was alive with high school juniors and seniors on April 7 and 8. An important part of choosing a college is attending prospective colleges to get a taste of what student life is like there. High schoolers who participate in IBC’s college days have the opportunity to stay in the residence hall, attend classes, and get a firsthand taste of what the mentoring program is like.

They started arriving at 4:00 p.m. on April 7 and spent some time in the IBC student center, playing games and eating snacks. After that, they joined a number of college students in Have You Heard? which is an evangelistic outreach event of the college ministry of Tri-City Baptist Church. It takes place on the campus of Arizona State University. That evening was the concluding service of a three day open air campaign with pizza afterwards. When they returned to the IBC campus, the high school and college students gathered on the patio by the residence hall for s’mores and games. Some of the visitors chose to stay in the residence hall overnight to get the full experience of the campus.

On Friday, the guests picked two college classes to visit, choosing from theology, history, English, education, or music. In addition to the classes, they had sessions with Mr. Nathan Mestler, Dean of Students, and Pastor David Brock, president of IBC. After lunch, the students met with some of the faculty for mentoring sessions, attended an information session about IBC, and then moved on to a game time. All too soon it was time for dinner, packing up, and heading home.

College Days is a great opportunity for prospective students to see what IBC is all about. From the classes to the activities to the food, everything was a pretty accurate portrayal of college life on our campus. It will be exciting to see which guests return as IBC students this coming fall.
