Society Rush - September 3, 2011

Societies offer International Baptist College students opportunities for fun, fellowship, and service. Societies meet at least three times a semester for all sorts of activities, from picnics and coffee runs to service projects.

The first week of school is "rush week" when each society recruits new students to join. Female students can join either Deborah or Lydia and male students can join Leland or Backus. The men's societies are named after early American Baptist leaders; the women's societies are named after Biblical characters.

At the end of rush week is the Society Rush picnic. This year Gerald Penny, IBC’s student body president, led the students in games before dismissing upperclassmen to wait at their society tables. The freshmen chose a society then all the students enjoyed a pizza dinner. After dinner, Deborah and Leland had a snowball and water balloon fight while Lydia and Backus played games in the student center.
