Lessons and Carols - December 1, 2011

"Lessons and Carols" is a traditional Christmas service that began in England over a century ago. International Baptist College's "Lessons and Carols" chapel service featured IBC staff members reading Bible passages pertaining to the Christmas story ("Lessons") and the Choir and Chamber Singers singing Christmas songs ("Carols").

Several of the songs were from The Winter Rose by Joseph Martin. The Chamber Singers sang several carols and traditional Christmas songs, including "Wexford Carol" and a new arrangement of "Silent Night." They were accompanied by Susie Yuen on the oboe and Landry Homsher and Jason McDonnell on the handbells.

IBC focuses on service and ministry preparation but also helps student develop in other areas, such as fine arts. In the coming semester, the IBC students will have several opportunities to develop in their artistic skills. The choir will perform The Winter Rose along with the TBC choir and TCA chorale on December 9 at 7:00 p.m. and December 11 at 3:00 p.m. In March, several IBC students will be performing in the community theatre production of Charley's Aunt. The spring semester will culminate in a fine arts concert featuring the Choir and Chamber Singers.
