Pastor Miller was born in Canton, Ohio, but considers Chandler, Arizona to be his home town. He distinctly remembers accepting the Lord as his Savior at age 6: “I was on the top bunk of my bunk bed, wearing Mickey Mouse pajamas. I had just spent a week at a day camp in Ohio called Camp Chof. A message from camp held onto my heart and I knew I needed to ask Jesus to be my Savior. So, right there in my bed I prayed and asked the Lord to save me from my sins." This experience undoubtedly influenced Bryan's later decision to work in children's ministry. Walter Baines - Business Administrator (Read more...)

Though Walt was born in California, he calls Wentzville, Missouri, his home town. Walt was saved while in the Air Force. When a Sunday School class discussion came to the conclusion that the existence of God did not matter, Walt went to a church that his coworker had invited him to many times. After several weeks, he realized that works do not provide salvation and accepted Christ as his Savior.

Walter received a degree in Business Administration with a minor in Economics from Northeast Missouri State. He got his teacher certification at Bob Jones University and went on to the University of West Florida where he obtained his M.B.A. For 37 years he served as a business manager in various Christian organizations including Pensacola Christian School and College, Accelerated Christian Education, and Pillsbury Baptist Bible College, before becoming Tri-City’s business manager in 1999.

Fun Facts about Walt

  • How you met your spouse: I met Pam at Tripoli Bible Church, a house church in Tripoli, Libya, when King Idris, the first and last Libyan king, was reigning. I was in the U.S. Air Force, and she was a British secretary working for an American Oil Company.
  • Why you named your children: We wanted to be Biblical, and we selected potential names well in advance! Our desire was to pick names that demonstrated good character. We came up with Sarah Elizabeth and Ruth Naomi.
  • A significant historical event lived through: While stationed at Wheelus Field in Tripoli, Libya, the Six Day War broke out. We vacated our planes, and the route appeared to the locals as if they were headed to Israel, and within an hour it was announced that American planes had destroyed Arab positions. Local feeling ran high. It was quite a sight to see the Libyan tanks coming down the road towards the base and taking up positions around the base to protect the base from the locals. We moved all military families to the base and shipped them back to the U.S. I can still remember vividly truck loads of Arabs going off with great fervor to fight the Israelis, armed only with shepherd staves. I smuggled my wife-to-be onto the base and requested permission for her to stay, but didn’t get approval until after the crisis and she had gone back to live and work in Tripoli.
  • Dream vacation spot and why: We had the opportunity to spend a few days in New Zealand, and we’d love the opportunity to go back and tour both the South and the North islands. It is a beautiful country, and very pastoral—sheep everywhere. And they speak English!
  • Favorite movie: Hot Millions starring Peter Ustinov & Maggie Smith. This is a comedy about a likable convict and his wife who helps him go clean in the end.
